FHIR-Explorer: A browser-based HL7 FHIR R4 editor

FHIR-Explorer is a local-first tool for HL7 FHIR R4 that runs entirely in the browser. It imports FHIR packages with their dependencies, manages projects and datasets, and edits resources with forms generated from the package profiles, validated live.

What it does

  • Import FHIR packages, including all transitive dependencies, and see the dependency graph.
  • Create projects and datasets and manage them from one overview.
  • Edit resources with profile-driven forms generated from StructureDefinitions.
  • Validate live: cardinality, required fields, bindings and references.
  • Export datasets and projects as JSON or ZIP.
  • No backend: packages and data stay in the browser; package archives come straight from the public registries.

Why I built it

I built FHIR-Explorer for healthcare interoperability work around the electronic patient record (ePA) and the German Telematics Infrastructure, where people need to understand and fill FHIR profiles without setting up a server. The website explains FHIR basics for non-developers and opens a ready-made example project in the editor.
